My Toxic Free Skincare Routine

My Toxic Free Skincare Routine

I thought it would be helpful to start posting about products that I’ve discovered and LOVE that help me replace the toxic products in my life. These are great for yourself, family, or friends and seriously make the perfect gifts for any health nut! I hope these products inspire you to try to replace products in your life because I think it’s so important to start NOW! Even replacing just one toxic product a month will tremendously help with your toxic load.

In an ideal world, a healthy body would detox itself; however, with so many freakin’ chemicals in our food, skin care products, household cleaners, etc. our livers can’t detox properly. This leads to a myriad of chronic diseases and side effects including: bloating, slowed metabolism, digestive issues, cancer, etc. Almost EVERY chronic disease on the planet has links to toxic load!

I know this sounds overwhelming and scary, but it doesn’t have to. Think of it as a blessing that you’re starting today, and making small changes that will make BIG impacts in the quality of your life! I also encourage you to SHARE SHARE SHARE this post with loved ones because it’s so important that we ALL start reducing the toxins in our lives!

I’m excited to begin posting more regularly on all-natural products I’m switching over to and hope it will help you simplify your own search. Please know that NOTHING is sponsored. These are simply products I’ve personally tested and love- and I hope you love these safe, non-toxic products as much as I do.

Skincare:

Why switch?  Every wonder why all the skincare products you try don’t actually work or show long-term results? The answer is surprisingly simple. Almost all products start with the ingredient “aqua”, “de-ionized herbal infusion”, or any other BS term of WATER!! Water dries your skin and if it’s not purified (the label will state if it is), you’re basically paying big bucks for… drumroll please….TOXIC WATER! Hydrating your skin is the numero uno goal; however, as Trina Felber, RN, BSN, MSN, CRNA, and CEO of Primal Life Organics (impressive title huh?) explains beautifully, “Most of the water in your skincare evaporates before the skin absorbs it. As water evaporates, it takes with it many of the skin’s natural oils. This actually makes your skin lose moisture and contributes to dryness.”

Aside from the whole water issue, the skincare industry is so poorly regulated that the “harmless” and “natural” products we buy, contain nearly 10,000 UNTESTED chemicals. Yeah, not scary at all…😱. These chemicals are quickly absorbed through our skin and into the bloodstream, instead of being digested through the liver (like the toxins we digest). This means all these Parabens, Phalates, etc. are actually MORE dangerous ON our skinAnother scary thought? “These chemicals can disrupt your endocrine system- which is responsible for all of your hormones. Reproductive problems, cancer, and decreased thyroid function can result. Your thyroid is responsible for your metabolism. Slowed- you could accumulate more fat tissue. Your skincare can be contributing to weight gain.”

As promised, here is my current non-toxic skincare routine:

Cleanser // Cocokind’s Organic Facial Cleansing OilCleansing-Oil_1024x1024

I simply love this stuff. Not only is this cleanser full of antioxidants that help promote natural skin regeneration, it actually gets all my makeup off! Instead of stripping your skin of important oils, like most facial cleaners, this cleaners protects and maintains healthy moisture levels. There are only FOUR all-natural, organic ingredients in this cleanser!

Eye Makeup Remover  // Kopari Coconut Melt

This was probably the biggest switch for me because the longest time I was using…Johnson & Johnson’s baby shampoo as eyemake up remover (cringing at the thought). My eye doctor told me use it because, and I quote, “It’s great for cleaning your tear ducks”. Ugh!! I’ve been smearing chemicals all over my eyes for years now! I never switched because I would sometimes try new removers and they wouldn’t get all my mascara off. But I finally tried coconut oil and I’m here to tell you it works! I just rub an organic cotton ball or pad into the jar and gently wipe off my eyemake up. Not only does it remove the makeup, but it also nourishes your beautiful lashes and serves as an awesome under eye moisturizer! But what I love most about this coconut oil is that it’s literally ONE ingredient! How about that for all-natural??

Mask // Cocokind Organic Ultra Chlorophyll Mask

This ingredient list is LEGIT (Organic Spirulina Powder, Organic Wheatgrass Powder, Organic Chlorella Powder, Organic Ylang Ylang Oil) I’ve been using this chlorophyll mask for almost a month now and I’ve seen a huge improvement in my skin! Chlorophyll is rich in antioxidants which help not only purify the skin, but relive breakouts and bring out natural glow! Another huge plus is that this mask is great for sensitive skin and can be used multiple times a week. I’ve been using it 3-4 times a week and my skin feels amazing!

Facial Oil //  Herbivore’s Lapis Balancing Facial Oil

Oil is so important for your skincare routine because skin needs to be hydrated so that it doesn’t produce oil of its own, causing clogged pores.  This powerful, but gentile facial oil can be used both day and night after cleansing. This phthalate free, paraben free, sulfate free, artificial ingredient free, oil is great for those with oily or blemish-prone skin types because it’s a powerful anti-inflammatory and antibacterial- which aids in reducing redness and clarifying the complexion. Not only does it smell INCREDIBLE, but It contains squalane from olives, which is an antioxidant, prevents UV damage and the formation of age spots, promotes cell growth and is an antibacterial. I know this one is a little pricey but its WELL worth it. You can also start small with this rollerball version here.

Spot Treatment //  Cocokind’s Turmeric Stick

I’ve been LOVING turmeric lately. It’s my new go-to nighttime tonic, breakfast addition, and now my spot treatment! Seriously, this tiny stick packs a BIG punch. The turmeric helps to reduce inflammation while the tea tree oil helps fight acne-causing bacteria. However, I do suggest using it at home because it’s very  yellow when it’s on your skin. (I’ve totally forgot it was on my face and greeted guests before 🙈 So don’t do that!)

Under Eye Moisturizer //  Cocokind’s MYMATCHA Stick

This minimal ingredient MYMATCHA All-Over Moisture Stick (only THREE organic ingredients) is my new obsession. It has so many freakin’ uses! It’s great to use as a dark circle corrector in the mornings and again at night for some seriously under eye moisture before bed. I also use it as lip balm and dab it on any drier areas on my face!

Moisturizer // Cocokind’s Organic Matcha Face Moisturizer

I mean who doesn’t love Matcha?!  This superfood has tonssss of antioxidants and is great for your skin! There’s no water in this moisturizer- just simple, organic ingredients that help rejuvenate the skin and heal any irritation or redness.

I am always open to trying new products! Comment below with products you love!

Sincerely Sick of Chemicals,

Elizabeth Harrington
